In partnership with Tawaya NGObased in the Atlas mountains, we select for you serious projects to help populations in need, in remote regions of the Atlas mountains. Short missions, and no skills needed, only your good will is required!
The Valley of Aït Bouguemez is about 260 kilometres away from Marrakech. Other important cities nearby are Azilal and Beni Mellal.
Summers are dry with some few thunderstorms. Rainfall is more important during winter. Snow falls generally from October to the end of March.
You will be staying at the Volunteer House in the village and will get to know local Berber families throughout your volunteering programme. The village that welcomes you is surrounded by the impressive mountains of the High Atlas. The highest summit is at 4 068 meters and the average altitude of the valley is 1 800 meters. This particular geographical situation makes this village very special. You will be helping the Moroccan Berber population, by assisting dedicated men and women whose aim is to allow the villagers to fulfil their dreams. Educational, cultural and medical projects will help them progress and improve their actual and future quality of life.
You will help tackle the lack of schooling, education and training of young people in several areas such as:
▪ Improve the rural populations' sanitary conditions
▪ Promote environmental protection
▪ Enhance the cultural, architectural and historical Moroccan heritage
▪ Promote Berber culture and art
▪ Fight illiteracy
▪ Develop organic farming
Upon your arrival at Marrakech or Casablanca airport, a member of the NGO Tawaya will pick you up and organize your transport to the village or your accommodation depending on your flight times. You will spend your first night in a hotel or with a host family in Marrakech or Casablanca (depending on
availabilities). You will be transferred to the village on the next day. After arriving in the village, you will be introduced to the project’s teams, the school and meet local families. In the evening, after dinner, a meeting will be held at one of the families' to set up a weekly schedule detailing project objectives. You will be accommodated at the Volunteer House in the Berber village and have full board during your entire stay in Morocco. The population can speak French, but very few understand English. OTravels appoints an English speaking coordinator for communication.
On the last day of your programme, you will stay in a hotel or with a host family in Marrakech or Casablanca. The coordinator will organize your transfer to the airport the next day. You can use this time to visit this wonderful city, its souks or the famous place Jemma El Fna.
